Cults and murder。。。interesting！Abby Mullen is a police officer who specializes in negotiating with criminals。 She is very good at her job。 She is divorced and has two children。 In her past， she was raised in a cult until the age of seven when disaster struck。 Now， she is investigating a different cult because a little boy has went missing， and things get tricky and nail biting until the end。 I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who likes crime thrillers！

A very interesting book that had me guessing until almost the very end。 A kidnapping mystery with links to a religious cult。 Abby Mullen， a cult survivor herself， has intimate insight into cult leaders as well as followers and uses her inside knowledge to negotiate between the cult and the police in an attempt to rescue the young boy who has been kidnapped。 I thought the book well paced and kept my interest throughout。 The very final page has a twist that I most certainly did not see coming and A very interesting book that had me guessing until almost the very end。 A kidnapping mystery with links to a religious cult。 Abby Mullen， a cult survivor herself， has intimate insight into cult leaders as well as followers and uses her inside knowledge to negotiate between the cult and the police in an attempt to rescue the young boy who has been kidnapped。 I thought the book well paced and kept my interest throughout。 The very final page has a twist that I most certainly did not see coming and am very curious to see if Mr。 Omer follows up on that particular thread in what I hope will be book 2 of the Abby Mullen Thrillers。 。。。more

LOVED this book！！ Found it on a whim and was so happy I did。 The only thing that is going to drive me nuts is the ending。 I love that he left the book open ended， but it makes me anxious for the next one to get done so I can tie it all together！ Recommended this book already to multiple people and it will be on the top of my list for a while！

This was an engaging page turner full of action throughout the whole book。 I love stories with heroines who are good in one area of their lives but have flaws and hurt places。 I’d read more of this author。

I picked up 'A Deadly Influence' for free from Amazon Firsts。 All I knew about it was what it said on the publisher's summary which pitched it as a police procedural / psychological thriller about a kidnapping of a child of a cult survivor and as the first of a new series featuring NYPD negotiator Abby Mullen。 I looked up Mike Omar and saw that he'd already published seven books in two other series and thought I'd give it a try。It turned out that this isn't my sort of thing。 I put it aside after I picked up 'A Deadly Influence' for free from Amazon Firsts。 All I knew about it was what it said on the publisher's summary which pitched it as a police procedural / psychological thriller about a kidnapping of a child of a cult survivor and as the first of a new series featuring NYPD negotiator Abby Mullen。 I looked up Mike Omar and saw that he'd already published seven books in two other series and thought I'd give it a try。It turned out that this isn't my sort of thing。 I put it aside after the first ten chapters （about 12%）The writing was sparse and functional。 It told me everything I needed to know to understand the situation and the player but it felt stylised。 It reminded me of the set of standard facial expressions American soap actors seem trained to use and which we're meant to recognise and respond to but not necessarily believe in。This kind of prose pushes characters towards stereotypes - in this case， the main character， Abby Mullen， is an NYPD negotiator with a tragic past， she's a cult survivor， with a broken family， compulsive behaviour and a need to save people。 Fine as far as it goes but still more of a premise than a person。That left only the plot to keep my interest。 That seems to be heading towards bringing the NYPD negotiator face to face with a well-organised psycho male abducting a child， the younger brother of a teen girl who he has become obsessed with via her Instagram account。 There's also some foreshadowing that the whole thing is linked to the cult that Abbey survived。I didn't get much further than the setup。 There were some solid scenes that would make good TV but nothing that really engaged me with the people， On the other hand， the creepy guy doing the kidnapping， another twisted white loner narcissist， is disturbing not because he's vividly drawn but because these kinds of men have become so normalised in fiction and in real life that they no longer need to be explained。 We take them for granted。I don't want another one of those guys in my head， even if good triumphs in the end， so I've set the book aside。 。。。more

A truly unputdownable thriller - so suspenseful and twisty I was virtually glued to the pages from the very start and until the explosive end。 A clever central protagonist; a killer of a plot full of intrigue; the ending you’d never expect - all this made “A Deadly Influence” an incredibly thrilling ride。 And of course， if you add cults to the mix， it just doesn’t get better than that。 I already can’t wait for book 2！

Dang GoodI normally find a few minutes a day to read。 Mostly I read while eating dinner。 Rarely is a book so good that I put aside everything else I have or want to do and just read。 This book was so dang good that the last few chapters I couldn’t stop reading。 All through the book I found myself making excuses why I’d just sit down and read awhile。 It’s definitely a page turner。
